Well, SOME BY MI has been quite popular nowadays, isn’t it? For example, you should have heard of SOME BY MI AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle line, unless you’ve been living under a rock. Since the 30 Days Miracle line was a hype, SOME BY MI’s next products were also booming. Basically, SOME BY MI products are all affordable, but they innovate a lot and always contain notable ingredients.
Personally, I wasn’t interested to try the 30 Days line at all, mainly because it targets problematic skin, which (thankfully) doesn’t happen to me. However, the next line was quite fascinating : Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Glow line. Since this review was a little bit late (I was too laaazzzyyy to write a long review nowadays), by this time, SOME BY MI has also launched SOME BY MI Yuja Niacin line, followed by SOME BY MI Snail Truecica Miracle Repair line. Sadly I haven’t tried both lines, but now I’ll try my best to review this SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Glow Toner.
SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C line comes in a dark brown-colored bottle, both of the serum and the toner. As for the toner, it uses a dark brown plastic bottle inserted to a white-colored box as a secondary packaging. I appreciate how SOME BY MI pays more attention to ensure the product is brand-new by using a sticker to seal the box, as well as using an alummuniun foil to seal the product output hole. If you ever bought SOME BY MI 30 Days Miracle line, you might find a drawback regarding the Hangeul-only product information, which sadly, still occurs to this Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C line. I hope SOME BY MI will improve this in the future, especially for the major information such as ingredients, cautions, and usage directions that would be an important consideration.
A short intermezzo :
I’ve mentioned before, SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C line always uses a dark-colored bottle, which risen up my curiosity. Turns out a dark color packaging is designed to prevent the vitamin C damage. Vitamin C is vulnerable when exposed to UV light, so the packaging must protect vitamin C or its effectiveness will be diminished. That’s why products containing vitamin C typically come in dark glass bottles, good job SOME BY MI!
SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner has watery texture with transparent yellow color plus quite strong acidic scent. This product emphasize the relatively high vitamin C content, so I guess this ingredient does influence the scent. I love how the scent isn’t lingering too long, replaced by a very slight scent of burnt-sugar (this must be the caramel) when being applied.
I was impressed seeing that this toner needed little time to absorb. However, I did feel some light tingling sensations on my face during first days of usage. This feeling made me curious, so I decided to do some googling. Turns out vitamin C could also act as a light exfoliator; it will take a little bit of the top skin layer, which draws to a sting, which translated as tingling sensation in our skin.
A short intermezzo, again :
Do you understand how to calculate and decipher the ppm content of skincare ingredients? I’d like to explain it since in this case, is important because it states the amount of vitamin C. The ascorbic acid (vitamin C) dosage here per product is 10,000 ppm. Ppm itself is short for part per million, so 10,000 ppm means 0.01 grams/L or 1%. Whoops, don’t laugh yet seeing the scant percentage. According to some sources, Vitamin C serums usually has 10% – 20% vitamin C content, and the number 1% is still quite notable especially for a watery products like toners. Moreover, other researches state that 0.6% vitamin C is enough to show differences on your skin.
Since toner itself isn’t a very concentrated product, I believe I should use this product in relatively long time before stating the result. Sooo, I’m gonna tell you the temporary result I felt after 1 – 2 months of usage.
- Generally smoother and more moisturized. Thus, it was also healthier and more moisturized even after being washed using cleansing foam. I didn’t see this with my previous toner, SECRET KEY Milk Brightening Toner. Well, money speaks loud 🙂
- Make my skin firmer and free from small pimples. I assume the GFF and Adenosine contents really play important roles here.
- Slightly and temporary improve my skin tone. I had some uneven skin tone, reddish on the cheek. The effect of Niacinamide and Vitamin C? Hope this effect would last longer as I keep using this product.
Well, right now I’ve been using SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner for 10 months so I could give a more credible and trusted review. Above all, I love what SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner does to my acne scars. I’ve tried a lot of serums and other products, while none of them works well with my scars. Of course this wasn’t a single use, and I have to thank PURITO Centella Green Level Recovery Cream (review coming soon) also.
If anything, SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner also does a nice job in moisturizing my skin. It absorbs very fast, while also leaves my skin healthier. This toner doesn’t give rich moisture like a honey-based product (COSRX Propolis Synergy Toner review is coming soon!), so basically its moisturizing capability is more applicable, like if you are lazy to do your long skincare routine or you’ve already sleepy at night.
While the comparisons between what SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner claims vs. what it does to my skin are (10 months observation) :
- Brighten skin and maintain it. Sadly no, it’s just temporary effect.
- Moisturize skin. Checked!
- Make skin healthier. Checked!
- Soften skin texture. Checked!
- Soothe irritated skin. Couldn’t be proved as my skin is normal.
According to cosDNA, SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner has relatively low-risk ingredients, unless for the fragrance content which shows medium risk. So, I would personally recommend SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner for anyone! I’m even curious to try the SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Serum to experience better effect on my skin. However, any sensitive skin should beware vitamin C content since it exfoliates and it’s acidic too. Plus, I recommend to use SOME BY MI Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Toner merely at night, considering it high percentage of vitamin C. Of course you are allowed to use it in the morning, but you have to be extra careful with the sun light. You never know how acceptable your sunscreen product, isn’t it?
