Well, the hype of soothing gel might be out-of-date, since the pioneer (and the most popular one) is the one from Nature Republic; Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel. Since then, a lot of brands have tried to make their own soothing gels too, with the diversities in the main ingredients, percentage, packaging, etc. I personally didn’t think a soothing gel was necessary and didn’t even consider to buy one, especially because the gel texture and cooling effect were mainly due to the alcohol content, which I avoided as possible as I could. And then the time came, when I planned for a holiday in a summer-weathered country. Back then, I thought a soothing gel would be quite beneficial to soothe my skin, as well as reduce the sunburn effect.

The packaging of 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel is a bulky plastic jar (300 mL / 10.58 fl.oz) with a twisted closure, dominated with soft yellow color and snail illustration. All product information is written on the bottom part of the jar, although none of them is in English. I had to work quite hard reading them, but thankfully the Korean information is complete and clear. You can easily find the claim, ingredients, usage directions, even the precautions. There is also an inner lid, plastic-material and transparent. This plastic-material is quite unusual, since inner lids of some products (usually creams and gel creams) have relatively thicker and stronger plastic material. While an inner lid’s main function is to prevent leakage or spilling out, the one of 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel doesn’t help much. This thin and elastic lid tends to leave the product of the closure which is quite unhygienic and messy. In the other hand, the jar itself is also quite thin that it had a part broken while being shipped to me. Besides the unsafe protection box from the seller, I guess the jar itself is too vulnerable to contain such a huge amount of product. For comparison, the jar of Nature Republic soothing gel is much firmer and heavier than this one. As for the product appearance, 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel is gel-textured, odorless, and has transparent color. It gives nice cooling sensation everytime being applied to my skin. For a very short moment, there’s sticky feeling and glisten appearance but it runs out quite fast after being absorbed perfectly to  my skin.

Early months after purchasing 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel, I only used this in my body, mainly because of the alcohol content. As you can see in the ingredients list, alcohol is written in the big five so it’s quite high for me personally. For body usage, this product felt very nice! It gave instant recovery to the sunburnt-skin especially because of its cooling effect. 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel was also absorbed quickly, allowed me to do my activities as usual right after applying.

Seeing the huge volume content of 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel, of course it wouldn’t had ran out after my holiday trip. And since I didn’t usually use soothing gels for daily activities, I started to consider using this product as a face gel-cream. Even the Nature Republic one had suggested to apply the soothing gel for the skin, so I considered 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel was safe enough too.

The result was generally good for the first months. 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel was absorbed fast in my face, too, which eased me to continue my skincare routines quickly. And the odorless feature of 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel made it pleasant to be used on face. Meanwhile, after quite some time, I thought the alcohol content somehow had been drying my skin out. I wasn’t an alcohol-sensitive, thankfully, that’s why the negative result was minimal. I only felt my cheeks areas had gotten slightly rough and dry, which was emphasized after applying cushion and powder. After realizing this, I immediately stopped using 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel during my skincare routines, and bought PINK by Pure Beauty – so smooth Pudding Cream whose claim is to moisture skin.

As a conclusion, I’d suggest 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel for body usage; it’s very nice and the price is also economical. Although it contains alcohol, our body skin isn’t inclined to evaporate the moisture content as much as our face is. Additionally, the regular usage of body lotion would be so much help too, but I guess our face is more sensitive and attention-worthy compared to our body skin.

According to cosDNA, this product contains some mid-level-risk ingredients but pretty common to find in skincare products: phenoxyethanol, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, and Sodium Hydroxide. I had no objection toward them though, but I did hear some people are avoiding phenoxyethanol since it’s a preservative. Well, the choice is always yours. But on the other hand, I expect safer ingredients from 3W Clinic 100% Snail Mucus Soothing Gel since it does claim the 4-free-from; paraben, artificial coloring, benzophenone, and mineral oil. Why not adding ‘phenoxyethanol’ to the list and make it sounds a lot cooler and safer? Hehehe.

Pros :

  • economical price
  • huge amount
  • nice cooling sensation (I suggest the usage for body)
  • treat sunburn
  • absorbed fast

Cons :

  • Product information is in Korean
  • has to be bought online
  • dries out face skin and makes it slightly rough
  • high percentage of alcohol
  • contains some medium-level of risk
